A Marysville firefighter sprays a propane tank that was reported as being on fire at a residence at Fourth and Maple streets at about 7:50 a.m. today. Marysville Fire Chief Jay Riley said the resident uses a propane heater to warm his garage. When he lit the heater this morning, the tank caught fire and he kicked it into the driveway to prevent a house fire. Crews immediately contained the fire upon arrival. Triad Elementary School students are in good shape when it comes to reading. Elementary School Principal Lee Claypool told the school board Thursday that since the first time the Ohio third grade reading guarantee began in 2014, her school has no at-risk students. “I will pass that along to all the teachers,” Claypool said. “They have worked very hard to get us to that point.” The Ohio Third Grade Reading Guarantee is a program that singles out children from kindergarten through third grade that are struggling with reading. Marysville City Council had some further discussion regarding the city’s possible purchase of the Union County YMCA Monday, including the possibility of letting residents decide themselves. Councilperson Nevin Taylor asked City Law Director Tim Aslaner whether a ballot issue should decide the purchase. Aslaner said that would be up to council to decide.
