If it wasn’t obvious before, it was during Tuesday night’s State of the Union address – Democrats are offended by President Donald Trump. They are offended by what he says, what he does, what he doesn’t do, legislation he proposes and by every facet of his being. In Congress, they vote against a bill, not because they disagree with what is in it, but simply because it’s something Trump endorses and so they are against it. The tax-cut measure is a perfect example of that. Every Democrat voted no, even though it benefits many Americans, poor, rich and in the middle. To support that statement locally, even though employees of the Journal-Tribune have a mix of political views, after the first payroll implementing the new IRS tax-cut tables was completed last week, everyone’s paycheck increased.
What is being overlooked here is that Trump is President of the United States and deserves respect for the office and position he holds. Of course one can disagree with him. But that doesn’t give them the right to throw dirt in his face at every turn.
I, too, am offended. I am offended by athletes and others who disrespect the Flag and the National Anthem. I am offended by our tax dollars being used to support illegal aliens, many of who don’t want to work. I am offended by liberal members of Hollywood who think their opinion is better than mine and who mistakenly believe normal people want to hear what they have to say. I am offended by the ultra-liberal leaning of the nation’s universities and colleges, and members of their faculties who are poisoning the minds of America’s students. I am offended by the corruption in Congress and by the multi-million dollar fund that was set up to pay off those with sexual abuse accusations against senators and representatives. I am offended by members of Congress who don’t give a hoot about their constituents or the country, and who care only about putting money in their pockets and getting re-elected. I am offended by the tremendous squander of taxpayer money on “pork barrel” legislation to please officeholders, and on nonsensical investigations that often are a waste of time and result in no action taken. I am offended by the alphabet soup TV news broadcasts that have such a liberal bias the word “journalism” no longer applies to their reports. I am offended by those on the left who try to change American history to suit their warped viewpoints.
I could go on and on but I hope you get the picture. Not since the Civil War has there been such divisiveness in the nation as exists now. There never was and never will be total agreement on every piece of legislation. However, debate and then compromise are the building blocks of successful resolution of the important issues of the day. American citizens should not be made to suffer just because of which party is in power and who is president. Unless those elected to lead America can come to their senses and properly fulfill their obligation, the future of the country is in serious jeopardy.
