The Union County Health Department (UCHD) will host a town hall meeting from 6 to 7 p.m. May 2 at the UCHD building.
At the town hall meeting, officials from the UCHD will gather feedback from residents on what levy options the Board of Health should explore for the November 2018 election.
The UCHD is funded through a 0.75-mill levy that expires in 2019 and a 0.5-mill levy that expires in 2021. Each would be a 10-year levy, and when combined, produce about half of the department’s funding each year.
Options being explored include replacing the 0.75-mill levy, renewing it with an increase or proposing a new levy that would replace the other two.
“We have begun exploring every option, but we want to hear from our residents as to what they think is the option that is best for our community,” UCHD Health Commissioner Jason Orcena said. “Public health depends on the support of our local community. We must solicit their opinions when making this important decision.”
The health department is located at 940 London Ave., Marysville.
