Marysville High School officials were alerted to a possible weapon at the school Wednesday that turned out to be plastic.
According to an email sent to parents Wednesday by high School principal Tom Cochran, administrators at the high school were told there was gun in the bottom of restroom trash can.
Officials and school resource officer Joe Petzinger quickly searched the restroom.
According to the letter, a “look-alike, plastic, ‘airsoft’ like gun with an orange plastic tip” was found in the trash can.
“To be clear, there have been no threats made and the look-alike weapon is not real,” Cochran’s letter reads.
Students remained in class and the school day reportedly continued normally.
“We are currently investigating the situation, however I wanted to make sure that I was communicating with students, staff and families so there was not any confusion or misinformation,” Cochran said in the letter.
Cochran said the school takes any safety situation seriously and administrators continue to work with the Marysville Police Department to investigate the matter.
