Ruthann Smith “Cookie” Reed, 72, of Marysville, died Friday, Feb. 9, 2018, at Memorial Hospital, with her loving family by her side.
A 1963 graduate of Marysville High School, she was a member of the marching band and Girls Ensemble and Choir, also known as show choir. She attended the Columbus Business College. She worked as an administrative assistant at the Ohio State University in the choir department at the College of Education. She then worked for 24 years as a legal assistant with Cannizzaro, Bridges, Jillisky & Streng, where she was known for her dependability and attention to detail. A lifetime member of Trinity Lutheran Church, she was also a member of the senior choir at the church and very active with Trinity School.
To say she was one of a kind is putting it mildly. A loving wife, mother and grandmother, a few of her best traits were loyalty, honesty and dedication. She loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She enjoyed reading mysteries, crafts and singing throughout the community with her father for different groups and organizations.
She was born June 26, 1945, in Marysville, to the late James and Helen (Poling) Smith. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her daughter, Kendra Vanscoy; sister-in-law, Judith Smith; special stepbrother-in-law, Richard Wibley; and dear friend, Judy Cotter.
She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Merrill Reed, whom she married April 24, 1965, at Trinity Lutheran Church by the Rev. E.J. Goedking; son, Kelly (Jody) Reed of Marysville; grandchildren, Nathaniel Calkins-Reed, Juels Calkins-Reed, Jacob Vanscoy, Devyn Reed and Bryleigh Reed; six great-grandchildren; godson, Jim O’Neal; brothers, Ron Smith of Columbus and Tim (Anne) Smith of Lexington Park, Maryland; sisters-in-law, Sherrill and Candy; brother-in-law, Max; and dear friends, Nancy Ward, Ann Anderson, Garnet Rausch and Barry Denune.
