Billy Ray Stewart, 84, of Marysville, died Friday, Dec. 1, 2017, in his home.
He worked for more than 30 years for Westinghouse as a welder. Later in life, he retired after working for 10 years at the Ohio Department of Natural Resources. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
He enjoyed spending time on carpentry and woodworking projects and the outdoors. He could always be found lending a helping hand and was also a volunteer for Habitat for Humanity. He was an avid member of Woodstock Freewill Baptist Church and Cherry Street Baptist Church. Most of all, he loved to spend time with his family.
He was born on Aug. 7, 1933, in Ashland, Kentucky, to his late parents. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his beloved wife, Luetta E. Stewart, and grandson, Justin Stewart.
He is survived by his daughter, Peggy Sue (Kenneth) Gholson; sons, Timothy Ray Stewart and Mark Lee (Pam) Stewart; grandchildren, Jordan, Jayden, Marcus, Nick, Rebecca, Jessica and Kendra; 11 great-grandchildren; best friend, Tim Kibby; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A gathering of family and friends will be held from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Woodstock Freewill Baptist Church. The Rev. Russell Street will officiate funeral services at the church at 11 a.m. Wednesday. Burial will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery in North Lewisburg.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Woodstock Freewill Baptist Church, 332 W. Bennett St., Woodstock, OH 43084. Services are entrusted to Freshwater, McDonald & Vernon Funeral Home in North Lewisburg.
