E. Kathleen “Kay” Shumway, 89, of Delaware, died Saturday morning, Feb. 24, 2018, at Willow Brook Christian Village in Delaware.
She was a retired nurse from Willow Brook Christian Home in Worthington. She was a person who enjoyed the outdoors and bird watching. Her passion for animals led her to be a volunteer docent at the Columbus Zoo for 35 years.
A person of faith, she was a member of Delaware Church of Christ and formerly a member of Old Union Church of Christ near Marysville. She was a member of the Stepping Stone Women’s Organization and the McGuffey Club.
She was born Aug. 3, 1928, in Marysville, to the late Dana B. and C. Catherine Hamilton Griffin. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Richard K. Shumway, whom she married Dec. 25, 1949, and who died Feb. 10, 1996, son, John R. “Jackie” Shumway, and four brothers.
She is survived by her children, David A. Shumway and Barbara Green, both of Marysville, and Amy Shumway of Borrego Springs, California; grandchildren, Dustin, Will, Briana, Cody and David; and sister, C. Myra Colflesh of Columbus.
Tom Griffin will officiate funeral services at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Ingram Funeral Home. A gathering of family and friends will be held one hour prior to the service, from noon to 1 p.m. Burial will follow at Oakdale Cemetery.
