Gladys D. Nichols, 103, of Unionville Center, died Sunday, Jan. 21, 2018, at Bluebird Retirement Community in Marysville, two days after celebrating her birthday.
She was a member of Unionville Center United Methodist Church. She was a former president of the Polio Foundation of Union County and school bus driver for Fairbanks Local Schools. Along with her husband, she raised her children on her family’s farm and her grandchildren have continued the family tradition.
She was born Jan. 19, 1915, in Madison County, to the late William Lincoln and Zena (Dunfee) DeBolt. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Everett L. Nichols; sons, Robert L. Nichols Sr., Gene Nichols and George Nichols; grandsons, Andy Nichols and Robert L. Nichols Jr.; granddaughter, Cathy Jo Riggs; great-grandson, Sean Nichols; brother, George DeBolt; and sister, Geraldine Porschet.
She is survived by her daughters-in-law, Shelby Nichols, Mary Nichols and Bonnie Nichols, and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and step-grandchildren.
The Rev. Bonnie Frost will officiate funeral services at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Ferguson Funeral Home, 202 E. Main St. (Route 161 W.), Plain City. The family will receive friends two hours prior to the service, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Wednesday, at the funeral home. Burial will take place at Union Township Cemetery in Milford Center.
