Ian McClaren Wert, 45, of Marysville, died Monday, March 5, 2018, at Doctors Hospital West in Columbus.
An associate of Veyance Technologies in Marysville for more than 10 years, he was also a member of United Steelworkers Local 843 and a former associate at Honda of America. He grew up in the areas of Albion and Avilla, Indiana, and was a 1991 graduate of East Noble High School in Kendallville, Indiana.
An auto collector, he was most fond of Toyota Celicas and enjoyed riding motorcycles. He had a passion for all types of music. He had a taste for anything barbecue and was known not so much as a chef, but as a taste tester and a connoisseur of sampling. He was also known as a lively conversationalist and approached others with the intention of engaging them in friendship. Strangers became his friends for life. He especially adored the companionship of his canine “love child,” Buddy.
He was born Dec. 21, 1972, in Avilla, to Gregory L. (Ginger) Wert of Paintsville, Kentucky, and the late Rebecca E. Schlotter Wert.
In addition to his father, he is survived by his wife of 14 years, Sherry Bard Wert; daughter, Hannah M. (Timothy Klein II) Wert of Marysville; son, Isaah (Erica Warren) Carper of Kalamazoo, Michigan; grandson, Ian Carper of Kalamazoo; sisters, Romona (Phillip) Hay of Topeka, Indiana, and Andrea Wert of Marion, Indiana; sister-in-law, Mary (Thomas) Kauterman of Columbus; brother-in-law, William (Robin) Bard of Oklahoma; father-in-law, James (Rosemary) Bard of Marysville; mother-in-law, Pamala Bard of Columbus; nieces, Blanche Kauterman and Abigail (Thomas) Curl; great-niece, Lillian Curl; and many other relatives and friends, including “brothers from other mothers,” Tim (Angie) Stottler, Jason (Sarah) Lee, John (Neeta) Shuff and Joel LeMaster.
Viewing hours will be held from 10 a.m. to noon and from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday at Underwood Funeral Home, 703 E. Fifth St., Marysville. Memorial services to celebrate his life will be held in Indiana at a later date.
