John H. Marshall, 78, of Marysville, died unexpectedly Monday morning, Jan. 29, 2018, at Memorial Hospital.
He retired from the Marysville School System in 2005. A man of great faith, he was a member of Marysville First United Methodist Church, where he served as head usher for more than 30 years. He also served on several committees. He attended the first Central Ohio Emmaus Walk held in 1984. For the last 10 years, he was one of the organizers for the Community Thanksgiving Dinner, which was held at First Church.
He was a 1957 graduate of Northwestern High School in Raymond and attended Bowling Green State University. He was a past member of the Richwood Lions Club until its dissolution and most recently served as the treasurer of the Northwestern Lions Club. A sportsman at heart, he was an avid fan of the Ohio State University Buckeyes and the Cleveland Browns and Indians, and watched all sporting events.
Active in community, he served as a volunteer firefighter for more than 25 years and was a former Taylor Township Trustee. His knowledge of the community and people in it made him the “go-to person” if questions needed to be answered. His greatest enjoyments came from his family and grandchildren, whom he adored keeping, and coaching his kids in little league games.
He was born Dec. 26, 1939, in Delaware, to the late Leroy and Mary Kay Burris Marshall. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his brother, William Marshall.
He is survived by his wife, the former Beth Robinson, whom he married Feb. 22, 1973, at Pharisburg United Methodist Church; children, Amy (Bob) Hartman, Lindsay (Joe) Altizer and Marc Marshall; former wife, Judy Pfarr Salyer and their children, Jody (Jim) Cullman, Karen Marshall and Kim (Kip) Tallman; grandchildren, Marissa Marshall, Addison and Quinn Altizer, Trisha (Heath) Conklin, Nathan (Anita) Moffett, Tyler (Ashlee) Cullman, Wesley (LeighAnn) Cullman, Kincade (Jennifer) Tallman, Kierston (Travis) Cameron and Kolton (Taylor Knapp) Tallman; 10 great-grandchildren; father and mother-in-law, Max and Patty Robinson; sister-in-law, Carolyn Marshall; brother and sister-in-law, Jeff and Julie Robinson; and several nieces.
Calling hours will be held Wednesday, from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m., at Ingram Funeral Home. The Revs. Ken Daft and Kathy Reiff will officiate funeral services at 11 a.m. Thursday at First United Methodist Church. Burial will follow at Claibourne Cemetery.
