The Rev. Dr. Charles Edwin “Chuck” Stenner, 91, of Plain City, died Saturday, Dec. 16, 2017, at Dublin Retirement Village Assisted Living.
He was an Army veteran of World War II and was stationed in Tokyo at General MacArthur’s headquarters. He attended Eastern Michigan University, Wayne State University, University of Michigan, Princeton Theological Seminary and Methodist Theological School in Delaware to obtain his bachelor’s, master’s of science, master’s of divinity and doctor of ministry degrees.
He was a retired teacher, administrator and pastor who served 27 and a half years as a pastor of Plain City Presbyterian Church and six interims in Marion, Dublin, Columbus and Delaware. He was a member of Plain City Presbyterian Church, Plain City Lions Club, Columbus Singing Buckeyes and Presbyterian of Scioto Valley. He was a board president of the Mortgagee Board of Pleasant Valley Colony and secretary of the board of trustees for Presbytery of Scioto Valley. He was a choir member of Worthington Presbyterian Church.
He was born on Oct. 26, 1926, in Detroit, Michigan, the son of the late Alfred Jackson Stenner II and Katherine Ann (Schwesinger) Stenner.
He is survived by his wife, Patricia Mae (Smith) Stenner, whom he married on Sept. 2, 1949, at Immanuel Presbyterian Church in Detroit, Michigan; children, David (Lisa Dunson) Stenner of Union, Kentucky, Timothy (Vickie McCabe) Stenner of Mars, Pennsylvania and Lieutenant General Charles (Diedra Rice) Stenner Jr. of Centerville, Georgia; grandchildren, Jill (James) Kaufman, Eric (Jackie Parker) Stenner, Kelly (Clayton) Johnson, Nathan Stenner (Jared Gregoire), Trevor Stenner, Katherine (Jon) Bradstreet, Mark (Rio Friday) Stenner and Molly (Trey) Halbrooks; great-grandchildren, McKenna Kaufman, Riley Kaufman, Conner Kaufman, Arran Kaufman, Maddie Stenner, Charlie Stenner, Kevin Johnson, Darcy Johnson, Chloe Johnson, Brady Johnson, Wren Stenner, Edwin Stenner and Corinne Bradstreet; brothers, the Rev. Dr. Alfred Stenner of Chapel Hill, North Carolina, the Rev. Henry (Gertrude) Stenner of Goodyear, Arizona and the Rev. Richard (Mary Lou) Stenner of Indianapolis, Indiana.
The Rev. Alice Phillips will officiate memorial services at 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 29, 2017, at Plain City Presbyterian Church, 231 E. Main St., Plain City. Burial of his cremated remains will be held at Forest Grove Cemetery at a later date.
