Robert L. Hyland, 79, a lifetime resident of Marysville, died Thursday, Dec. 7, 2017 at Memorial Gables. After growing up in the Marysville firehouse, Bob served as a fireman and medic for the Marysville Fire Department for 11 years.
A member of Trinity Lutheran Church, he graduated from Columbus Business University with a degree in accounting, worked at the First National Bank of Marysville, then for Columbia Gas and lastly, for O. M. Scott and Sons as a senior programmer analyst where he retired after 26 years in 1992.
He was a member of the Marysville Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 3506, a life member of Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks Lodge 1130 and was a life member of Heart of Ohio Fish and Game Club.
He took great pride in being a charter member of Marysville Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 1651, where he earned his Fellowship Degree, Legion Degree and in 2007, was named Moose of the Year. His most proud moment was when Moose International presented him the Moose Pilgrim Degree in 2007, the highest honor to be bestowed to a member.
He was very proud to coach both of his daughters in athletics, especially in Little League baseball where many championships and memories were made.
He loved spending time with his grandsons, many hours of euchre, popcorn and secret trips for breakfast, lunch and ice cream.
He enjoyed all things outdoors. He looked forward to weekends and vacations at Indian Lake with family and friends. Cookouts, boating and fishing were a part of his life for more than 50 years.
He loved Yellowstone National Park and all wildlife adventures.
He was born April 22, 1938 in Marysville to the late Harold E. and Ruth B. Dean Hyland. He was also preceded in death by his brothers and sisters-in-law, Donald and Mary Hyland and Richard and Glenna Hyland; and his feline friend of 18 years, Smokey.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Mary Ann Weinlein Hyland, whom he married Aug. 4, 1962 at Trinity Lutheran Church; two daughters, Karen Hyland of Columbus and Jodie (Mike) Agan of Dublin; two grandsons, Robert and John Agan; nieces, Becky (Don) O’Donnell, Jan (Mike) Kimbler, Carla (Marc) Wells and Patricia Hyland; nephews, Mike (Debbie) Hyland, Terry Hyland and Matthew Hyland; and many Moose Lodge friends and coffee companions.
The family will receive friends 4-7:30 p.m. Sunday at Underwood Funeral Home where a Moose Lodge Pilgrim memorial service will be held following the calling hours. Rev. Kathy Reiff will officiate funeral services to be held 11:30 a.m. Monday, Dec. 11, 2017 at the funeral home. Interment will be held at Oakdale Cemetery.
