Roger D. Johnson, 71, of Mount Sterling, died Sunday, Jan. 21, 2018, at Mount Carmel West Medical Center in Columbus.
He graduated from a high school in Wheelersburg in 1964. He was formerly employed with Versa Corp. and Viaquest Inc. He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Mount Sterling and Palestine Masonic Lodge #158 F & AM of Marysville. He was a “dad” in DeMolay International and volunteer firefighter for Vernon Township’s fire department in Larrie. He enjoyed welding, playing cards, camping and doing carpentry work of all kinds.
He was born on March 20, 1946, in Portsmouth, to the late Riley and Gladys (Brown) Johnson. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his father-in-law, Jim Smith, and siblings, Wilma Jean Lemon and Ronnie Johnson.
He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Kim; children, Melissa (Kevin) Vollrath of Marysville, Gordon (Kelly) Johnson, Richard (Julie) Johnson and Ashley Johnson (Bryan Sockol); siblings, Kenneth Johnson and Patricia (Johnson) Ervin; grandchildren, Gordon Johnson Jr., Heather Johnson, Kayla (Michael) Bell, Alex Johnson, Kristin Johnson, Ethan Vollrath and Olivia Vollrath; and great-granddaughter, Marlie Johnson.
The Rev. Jay Moyer will officiate a funeral service at 11 a.m. Thursday at First United Methodist Church in Mount Sterling. Interment will follow at Pleasant Cemetery. His family will receive friends Wednesday evening, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., at Porter-Tidd Funeral Home, 331 W. Main St., Mount Sterling.
