Hanna Moffett tied a single-game school record on Saturday as the Marysville High School varsity softball team swept a doubleheader.
Moffett ripped five base hits during the nightcap, which resulted in a 12-4 triumph over Columbus Bishop Hartley.
That tied the single-game mark set by Angie Lala in 1992 and Sara Knox in 1998.
Moffett’s offensive prowess was part of a 15-hit attack.
Prior to that contest, the Lady Monarchs downed Bloom Carroll, 6-3.
MHS plated five runs during the first two innings against BC.
Both teams tallied eight hits and combined for seven fielding miscues.
Emily Daniel hit a homer and drove in two runs for Marysville.
Chris Ortman had two hits and two ribbies, while Leah Potter, Olivia Hall, Moffett, Lexi Williams and Airyanna Maurer each had one hit.
Maurer struck out seven and walked only two to pick up the win.
Ortman tallied four hits and a like number of RBIs during the win over Hartley.
Williams and Daniel each had two hits.
Taylor Claybaugh blasted a homer and drove in three runs.
Jewely Livingston started in the circle for the Lady Monarchs.
Izzy Shroyer won the game in relief. She struck out 10 and did not walk a batter in 6 2/3 innings.
The Lady Monarchs (14-3) will host Westland today.
The Marysville JV squad downed Hartley 13-0 and 14-2.
Diedra Blankenship gave up just one hit and fanned eight during the opener.
Ashlee Fishbaugh and Chloe Powers had three hits each, while Genesis Brooks had two.
Ashley Dunn went the distance in the circle during the nightcap. She struck out four and also had three hits.
JVs split
Marysville’s JVB baseball team split a twinbill with North Union by scores of 2-1 and 9-8 on Saturday.
The first game was tied at 1-1 in the bottom of the fifth.
Clark Hamilton squeeze-bunted for a single. That scored Christian Au for the winning run.
Michael Beverlin pitched a complete game. He allowed only three hits.
Alden Prohaska led the Monarchs with two hits.
North Union won the nightcap with a walk-off single in the eighth inning.
Jacob Dutter started on the mound for the Monarchs. He lasted five innings, allowing four hits and four runs while striking out three.
Dom Gaetano threw two innings out of the bullpen, allowing three runs, striking out two and walking three.
Wyatt Wheeler came in to finish on the mound.
Colby Kerns led the Monarchs with two hits in four at-bats.
Cardinals win
Triad’s baseball team edged Springfield Shawnee, 10-9, during a game played Saturday evening at Fifth Third Field in Dayton.
Triad held an 8-6 edge in the fourth inning before Shawnee plated three runs in the fifth.
The Cardinals scored twice in the fifth to regain the lead.
Jacob Greve then shut down the Braves in the sixth and seventh innings.
Greve and Trevor Instine both tallied two hits.
The Cardinals (6-5) will play at Southeastern today.
Lady Cardinals swept
Kenton Ridge took a pair of softball games from Triad.
The Lady Cardinals dropped the opener, 10-0, in five innings and fell in the nightcap, 6-4.
Audrey Lightle hit a double during the first game.
Maddy Collier drove in three runs during the second contest.
Triad (4-6) will play at Southeastern today.
