Festival to bring crowds to Unionville Center

The sixth annual Charles W. Fairbanks Family Festival will be held on The Green in Unionville Center Saturday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.  
Charles W. Fairbanks was vice-president of the United States from 1905-1909 under President Theodore Roosevelt. He was born on a farm just outside of Unionville Center, just four miles from Plain City.
Free wholesome family entertainment will be offered all day, including stage shows and roaming performances, as well as aerial acrobats. The shows will be a blend of music, puppets and animals.
Performers include:
•Jimmy Hensley, a young country singer from Columbus and a former “Senior Idol” winner on WCOL 92.3 FM radio. He has performed in Columbus, as well as in Nashville.
•Professor Science, a live action character with a cast of puppets who assist him in bringing the world of science into the lives of children and adults. In addition to stage shows, the Professor will pull his “Fun Wagon” around performing little mini-experiments.
•Animal entertainer, educator and enthusiast, Jungle Terry who will bring live animals, including reptiles, for his interactive show. Children will be invited to participate and hold the animals.
•CMG Records Nashville artist and former area resident, Charlie Tatman who will mix rock and roll and country music into his own blend of southern and country rock. His recently released CD is Free & Easy. He will be joined by his band, Bad Influence.
•WCOL 92.3, DJ Joe Boxer also will make an appearance.
•Living statutes, costumed stilt walkers, jugglers, fire eaters, balloon artists known as The Amazing Portable Circus. There also will be aerial acrobat shows.
•San-Ryu-Do fifth degree black belt martial artists Matthew and Amanda Owen will demonstrate their skills.
Especially for the children there will be jumbo inflatables and train rides for a nominal fee. A free game area will include corn hole, Frisbee golf, football throw, krazy kans, tic tac toss and three-way volleyball.
Food vendors will offer everything from barbecue pork, brats, hot dogs, hamburgers, Texas tenderloin, pork on a roll, funnel cakes, chili dogs, curly fries, bloomin’ onion and Dippin Dots. Also included will be a wide array of deep-fried food, including hot dogs, candy bars, Twinkies, pickles, veggies and Oreos.
Crafters and vendors will have wares for sale. A variety of items such as candies and cookies, face painting, jewelry, books, wind chimes, hair bows, bird houses, toys and collectibles will be offered.
A Union County Family YMCA three-month family membership will be the door prize just for attending the festival. There will be raffle tickets for sale for prizes drawn throughout the day.   They include a Honda gift bag from Honda Marysville, Paul Mitchell gift bag from B & Company, a season pass for the Darby Valley Conservation Club, Der Dutchman gift certificate, Wal-Mart gift card, Auto Zone car wash bucket kit, two one-month Plain City Curves memberships and an Applebee’s gift card.
Admission to the festival is free and free parking is available at the Unionville Center United Methodist Church on Main St. and the Darby Township Building on Fourth Street.
