Final lessons in Leesburg-Magnetic are learned by officers

The explosion of a small flash bomb in the former Leesburg-Magnetic Springs Elementary School gymnasium Wednesday was followed by a shock wave of smoke and flame. Then a mist of dirt fell from the ceiling.
A dozen law enforcement officers quickly filed into the gymnasium, pointing high-powered weapons.
The school has been closed for years and is scheduled for demolition to begin Monday.
The explosion, all part of a training exercise conducted throughout the day by the Union County Sheriff’s Office and the Marysville Police Department, highlights an unique opportunity for safety services to recreate real-life scenarios without the costly repercussions.
“It makes more realistic training for us,” Lt. Jamie Patton of the Union County Sheriff’s Office said.
