A fire that burned a Richwood house was listed as accidental.
Northern Union County Fire District Chief Randy Riffle said this morning the fire at 153 Beatty Ave. was caused by faulty and old electric wiring.
“It was pretty straightforward,” Riffle said. “It was caused by old knob and tube wiring.”
He said the origin of the fire was traced to a closet inside the home.
The fire was called in at 12:48 p.m. and Riffle said his crews, assisted by Radnor, Battle Run, Leesburg Township, Liberty Township and Marysville, were able to extinguish the blaze by 4:10 p.m.
Riffle said it was apparent after crews extinguished the blaze, that the fire had probably rendered the home unlivable.
“I would say, structurally, inside the house is a total loss — although it is still standing,” he said.
