Presidio Brass kicks off Union County Community Concert season September 29, 2009 at 5:04 am
Editor’s note: The following review was written by community member Avanelle Oberlin. ––– The 2009-2010 Union County Community Concert Series kick-off was an outstanding performance by Presidio Brass Sunday afternoon at the Marysville High School auditorium. The San Diego-based ensemble of five men played the French horn, trombone, two B flat trumpets, several other brass instruments and the keyboard for delightful melodic music. The unique repertoire included classical, jazz, country and swing music. The program opened by the ensemble playing two classical selections written by Russian composers. The first was “Russian and Ludmilla Overture” by Mikhail Glinka and the second selection was “Scheherazade” by Nicolai Rimsky-Korsakov. Then, from the “Fantasia Suite,” the group played “Night on Bald Mountain” and “The Sorcerer’s Apprentice.” Next, music from Copland Portrait offered mountain/country and hoe-down music.
