A wanted Marysville couple has been arrested after a traffic stop in Carteret County, N.C., officials say.
Gretchen Groves, 40, and Brian Groves, 43, of Marysville, were arrested Sunday on multiple charges after refusing to stop for speeding, according to a press release from the Carteret County Sheriff’s Department.
Gretchen Groves is wanted for grand theft and fraud while Brian Groves is wanted on a probation violation stemming originally from drug-related charges, according to the release. The vehicle the couple was driving was stolen from Ohio, according to officials.
Deputy Bill McKinney attempted to stop the car in Bogue, N.C., about 6 p.m. Sunday. The car briefly pulled over on N.C. 24 before speeding away from the deputy, according to the release.
During the pursuit by deputies and Cape Carteret police, the vehicle pulled over again to let Gretchen Groves, along with her 12- and 14-year-old children, out of the car, before pulling back onto the highway, according to the release. McKinney stayed with the mother and children while Deputy Justin Berry and Cape Carteret Officer Ethan Born continued the pursuit.
The vehicle ran into a large electrical box in front of the B B and T bank while trying to turn onto Old N.C. 58 from N.C. 24, according to the release.
