School Bus Safety Week underway

Fairbanks bus mechanic Corey Wells performs a routine inspection this morning at the bus garage in Milford Center. Oct. 19 through Friday is National School Bus Safety Week. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, school buses are seven times safer than passenger cars, but motorists illegally passing a stopped school bus present an increased risk to students boarding and leaving the bus. Safety for First Student urges motorists to devote their full attention to driving — no texting, making phone calls, searching for music, putting on make-up, etc.
