Carving out the past

Kindergarten pupils Abigail Underhill and J.R. DeMatteo try to carve a piece of wood with flint. Kindergarten, first and second pupils at St. Paul Lutheran School recently visited the Ohio Historical Center, where they learned about American Indians. The Indians would have used flint to carve out a log to make a canoe, pupils learned. Correlating with their studies of past and present, they visited seven “hands-on” centers, each demonstrating activities of the American Indians and early settlers.
