Pictured left - Brandy Bower is pictured competing in her winged sprint car. Bower is a resident of Marysville. –––– Marysville resident Brandy Bower was introduced to the race car track at a young age. “I remember my dad (Robert) taking me to the track when I was a kid and asked me what I thought,” said the Hilliard native. Her first reaction? “I asked ‘where’s mine?’” she said. Bower, who has been racing sprint cars for the past 17 years, has her own racer, which she co-owns with her dad. And the young lady has done quite well over the years. “I guess I’ve had some success,” she said modestly, regarding her three-time championship run in quarter midgets and the fact that in 2006, she was the first female to win the Mini Sprints at the 35 Raceway in Frankfort, Ohio. Bower has since moved up to winged sprint cars, which are cars that are simple, but brutally powerful. The chassis is a minimal tube frame with a short, 84-inch wheelbase. The suspension consists of a live axle in the rear and a dead axle up front and torsion bars for springs. A V8 engine is connected to the quick change rear axle by a coupler called an “in-out box,” thus allowing only the car to be either in gear or out of gear.
