Six students from the Marysville High School Marching Band will be among the select musicians marching in the 83rd annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade on Nov. 26.
Seniors Doug Dafler, Matt Nelson and Hannah Gleckler, juniors Isaac Young and Macy Henault and sophomore Alyssa Demchak will step off from New York City’s Central Park in the traditional parade featuring gigantic helium balloons and floats carrying celebrities.
The MHS students will be participants in Macy’s Great American Marching Band, under the direction of Ohio State University’s Jon Woods, director of the OSU scarlet and gray marching band, and Auburn University’s Richard Good. The 185 musicians will be accompanied by approximately 50 flags and dancers, according to the Macy’s Great American Marching Band Web site.
“It’s going to be really cool,” said Nelson.
The band members were nominated by MHS band director William Thissen after he received an e-mail from parade organizers. The message arrived after Marysville’s performance in this fall’s annual Buckeye Invitational on the Ohio State University campus. The Marching Monarchs received a “superior” rating at that competition.
