Voter turnout has been steady, according to Karla Herron of the Union County Board of Elections. –––– About 7 percent of qualified voters in Union County cast ballots before the polls even opened this morning, according to officials from the Union County Board of Elections. Union County Board of Elections Deputy Director Karla Herron said the office has already received 2,314 absentee ballots. About 1,100 voters cast ballots in the office. Union County has about 33,000 registered voters. Herron said voting today has been “smooth.” She said reports from poll workers at the precincts indicate voting has been very steady. “That has been pretty much the unanimous report from all the precincts, is steady,” Herron said. She said it is hard to tell if voting is heavy or light because the last similar election was in 2007. In 2007, a total of 36.58 percent of qualified voters cast ballots in Union County.
