If there is one word that could be stressed to people who plan on attending North Union’s home football playoff game against St. Henry on Friday, it would be “patience.”
That will be especially true for those behind the wheel of a motor vehicle.
“We’re anticipating 4,000 people coming to town for the game,” said Richwood Police Chief Monte Asher.
That number obviously translates into a great number of vehicles that will be parking on school property.
Asher said he will have a full force of officers at the game.
“We’ll have three officers on the grounds for security and two more will be outside routing traffic,” he said.
Asher said he has asked the Union County EMA for personnel help to assist with parking issues.
He added that he will get together with school officials about requesting further help from the Union County Sheriff’s Office.
Shortly before noon on Wednesday, it was reported the sheriff’s office will send deputies to help with traffic control.
The loop end into the high school will be closed, meaning that two entrances will be available to the parking lot.
“We will direct them to the high school parking lot first,” said Asher. “After that, we’ll send them to the middle school and after that to the elementary school.”
Gates to the football field will open at 5:45 p.m. for the 7:30 p.m. kickoff. However, Asher anticipates the first vehicles will start pulling in about 4:30 p.m.
