The donation of a historic Milford Center jail cell has sparked some debate among village council members.
Members have expressed their appreciation to a resident for the donation of an antique pioneer jail cell, especially with its ties to Milford Center’s past.
But according to discussions during Monday night’s monthly village meeting, where to place the cell is another issue.
While some members have described placing a jail cell at the local park is “kooky” at best, others feel a bit of history could be a great addition.
“If we’re going to take that we have to find somewhere to put (it),” member Tony Smith said. “I don’t want to put that in Liberty Park and have it used as a jungle gym. I don’t know if that is going to be a good decision.”
When the issue first came up in October, village zoning inspector Leroy Holt said the antique cell could date back to the early 1900s or late 1800s. He said it once held prisoners inside the current village hall building located on Railroad Street.
