Selects district’s all-league academic ‘teams’
Charts and statistics can be boring and lose a crowd instantly.
Based on this, North Union Curriculum Coordinator Dave Baker decided to honor the district’s academic progress using sports terminology. All three schools in the district received excellent designations on state report cards in 2009.
Baker took the results of the Ohio Department of Education’s school report cards and showed where the district ranks against other schools of the Mid Ohio Athletic Conference on various subjects within the grade levels.
“This is a terrific district academically,” Baker said.
Based on where the district fell in various categories, Baker named the Academic All Star Team for the district. He designated the awards as being earned by the teachers and students.
At North Union Elementary School honorable mention status when to fourth grade reading, fifth grade math and fifth grade science. A second team award went to fourth grade writing.
After the elementary school results, the district’s comparison against other schools of the MOAC improved dramatically.
At the North Union Middle School, honorable mention status was earned in seventh grade reading, seventh grade math, seventh grade writing and eighth grade social studies. Second team honors were earned in sixth grade reading, sixth grade math, eighth grade writing and eighth grade science.
The eighth grade math group had the top scores in the MOAC and earned first team status.
