By By SHERRYL SHEETS of the Richwood Gazette
Richwood Village council members discussed inviting residents living within the corporation to submit applications for a vacant council seat. The vacacncy is being created in the seat held by Jason Beeney. Beeney, who opted not to run during the November election, attended his last meeting as a council member on Monday. His term expires on Thursday, Dec. 31. Council has advertised the open position and has begun receiving a few applications, it was reported. Mayor Bill Nibert stated that the deadline to submit resumes will be Monday, Jan. 11, 2010. Solons will review all applications, arrange interviews and announce their selection by the Monday, Jan. 25 meeting. Applications for the four-year term may be submitted to: Richwood Village Council, in care of Village Clerk, Timothy Goodwin, 286 S. Franklin St., Richwood, OH 43344. Richwood homeowner, Ken Gordon approached council about the village being located in a flood plain. Gordon suggested council consider the possibility of doing an independent study to determine the true base flood elevation. Should council proceed and the findings indicate the measurement of 942 feet above sea level to be accurate, it could potentially help many residents save money by not having to buy flood insurance. Council will look into the cost of a study and discuss the request at a future meeting.
