Fund aims to keep pool open December 29, 2009 at 11:48 am

A new charity fund could keep local children swimming at the Marysville Municipal Pool this summer, despite city funding cuts. On Nov. 3 a proposed levy to raise the Marysville income tax levels from 1.0 percent to 1.5 was defeated at the polls. In an effort to balance the budget, city administration made approximately $2.3 million in cuts to departments, divisions and programs across the board, including funding for the city pool. While the snow accumulation rises this winter, and thoughts of swimming may be a distant memory, city parks and recreation superintendent Steve Conley said plans are in the works to help make sure the pool will open when the weather warms. In early December, Conley met with the Union County Foundation (UCF) and city councilman Dan Fogt to create the City of Marysville Swimming Pool Support Fund.
