Three Marysville Journal-Tribune staff members have been nominated for honors in the 2009 Associated Press awards. Leading the way for the newspaper is graphic artist Cassandra MacDonald who is up for two awards in the Best Informational Graphics category. Her entries, “Requested County Cuts” and “Keno Sales,” represent two of the three honorees in the category. These will be MacDonald’s first two AP awards. Reporter Mac Cordell is among five journalists vying to be named Best News Writer in the state. Cordell’s body-of-work entry included stories from a series on heroin abuse, a story about a local National Guard unit deploying, as well as breaking news and business stories. In previous contests Cordell has been named Best Business Writer and collected three other first place awards. This will be his eighth AP award. Managing editor Chad Williamson is among three individuals up for Best Headline Writer. His entry included various headlines from throughout the year. This will be his fourth time nominated in the category, after winning first place in 2007 and 2008. This will be his 16th AP award.
