Fire damages home

The Union County Red Cross is helping a Richwood family with lodging after a two-story house caught fire Sunday night.
Lynne Whatley, of the Union County Red Cross Agency, said this morning the fire started after 9:30 p.m. at 14391 Price-Mather Road.
She said homeowner Dennis Webb, 52, was transported to Marion General Hospital for injuries, but clarified that his injuries were not caused by the fire.
Northern Union County Fire Chief Randy Riffle said the man’s injuries resulted from a heart condition, as opposed to those caused from smoke or flames.
Riffle said the fire started due to an exposed electrical outlet which overheated. He said the flames were mostly contained to the same second floor room, although crews worked for more than two hours to ensure the fire had subsided.
