Richwood scrambles to get levy on ballot

Absent council members Monday night resulted in Richwood Village Council failing to hold a meeting.
Because just three of the six council members showed up for the meeting, the group lacked a quorum and could not call the meeting to order. Council members Von Beal, Scott Jerew and William Rose attended, while George Showalter, Jennifer Huff and Peg Wiley were absent.
The unrealized meeting threw a wrench in the village’s plan to put a replacement levy on the November ballot. Council needs to approve the measure by Aug. 4 to put it before voters.
Council wants voters to approve a 1.2-mill, four-year levy at current property valuation which would replace a 1.5-mill levy at old values. The old levy generates $26,500 annually while the proposed issue would bring in $28,258.
