The camp took place Oct. 12 and Oct. 13 in Marengo’s Heartland Retreat Center. Camp activities began with a 10 a.m. general session where members learned about the Student Leadership Challenge, FCCLA’s national partnership with the Children’s Miracle Network, and the new FCCLA state outreach project, The Giving Doll, created by Jan Householder. Ohio FCCLA president Allison Bruns presided over the conference. Members and advisers had the opportunity to attend many workshops led by the Ohio FCCLA state officers. Workshops included public speaking, Ohio FCCLA Endowment, parliamentary procedure, American Cancer Society, Stop the Violence, Japanese Exchange Program, Presidential Volunteer Service Award, STAR Events and financial literacy. Round tables were also offered to members, which included Rachel’s Challenge, etiquette, individual leadership, Operation Evergreen, Web site navigation and individual leadership programs. During the camp, members were involved in many team building activities to teach them how to collaborate with different individuals within a team. Members also participated in a Mini Relay for Life as well as the second Annual FCCLA’s Got Talent, to raise money for the Ohio FCCLA Endowment. Lindsey Salyer participated in the talent show, singing “Stay Beautiful” by Taylor Swift, and was chosen as one of the four top acts in the state. She will perform as part of the entertainment at the FCCLA State Leadership Meeting in Columbus in April. “I learned more about all the ways that FCCLA members can help in the community. I learned new ways to be a leader and the many different programs and projects that FCCLA members can take part in to try and help with problems in our society,” said Kaitlyn Salyers. “I am really glad to have had this opportunity. I learned a lot more about FCCLA and what it has to offer. I am looking forward to being a part of it in the upcoming years and meeting new people along the way,” said Lindsey Salyer.
