High school athletes can hone skills at area

Take a drive along Route 245 west of North Lewisburg and you really get into the heart and soul of Champaign County.
On each side of the road, there are thriving fields of corn and soybeans growing at a rapid pace toward the fall harvest.
A few miles farther and you turn left onto a winding Black Road near Cable where cell phone service is just about non-existent but the rural countryside surely is attractive.
After you’ve gone through some hairpin turns that would be the envy of many race tracks, you come to the Ryan residence.
Once there, you’ve stumbled upon a sports facility that many folks may not even know about.
The “Sports Barn” as it’s called, was opened four years ago by Dave Ryan.
“The thought behind opening this is that kids who live in the country really don’t have a place to go for a gathering sport,” said Ryan, whose daughter Morgan recently finished a stellar four-year softball career at Triad High School.
