Marysville spotted the visitors two first half touchdowns, but clawed back in the third quarter only to eventually fall 21-19 to the Chieftains. MHS head coach Jeff Gafford said simply that his team needs to start showing up in the first half. Last week Groveport raced out to a 28-0 first half lead and Bellefontaine took a 14-0 advantage into the intermission. “You’ve got to be able to play in the first minute,” Gafford said. Neither team scored in the first quarter as each team mounted decent drives that chewed up the clock but resulted in no points. Bellefontaine converted a third-and-11 pass deep in its own territory to sustain its second series and then rode the strength of bruising runs up the middle by 6-2, 225- pound fullback Preaston Artis. Speed back Justin Baughman then sliced through the MHS defense for a 13- yard touchdown. Jordan Price nailed the extra point and the Chiefs held a 7-0 lead with nine minutes left in the second quarter.
