On the football field you can run around until your heart’s content from your own 20 to the opponent’s 20.
It’s what you do inside the 20’s that decides the game.
On Friday night against Olentangy Liberty, Marysville’s offense decided to shoot itself in the foot.
A delay of game penalty, a missed field goal, a fumble and a holding call all in the first half and all inside the Liberty 20 led to missed scoring opportunities in a 17-6 home loss on Friday.
“We don’t have a lot of room for error right now,” MHS coach Jeff Gafford said after the game. “We have to be efficient.”
Marysville’s defense opened the game against a wide-open, no-huddle Liberty offense. QB Zach Michael dinked and dunked his way down the field.
Running back Jo’el Murphy ripped off a 15-yard run to put the ball at the one and then took it over on the next play for the opening score.
