Pioneer runner advances to state cross country meet

Jonathan Alder’s Chris Yanichko extended his senior cross country season by one week at Pickerington North High School on Saturday.
Running in a Division II regional championship race, Yanichko battled the elements to place seventh among 131 runners to earn a spot as an individual in the state championship meet at Scioto Downs on Saturday.
Yanichko will toe the starting line at 2:05 p.m.
As a team, the Pioneers finished 11th out of 16 teams with 278 points. The top four teams, which earned spots in the state tournament included St. Clairsville-59, Granville-95, Circleville-120 and Sandy Valley-131. Brad Liston from Circleville was the individual winner in 17:02.
