Although the 28-3 loss to St. Henry in the opening round of the Division V playoffs wasn’t what fans of the North Union football team wanted on Friday, the rest of the evening was a success if measured by money made, smooth flowing traffic and zero security issues.
A crowd that was estimated to be close to 4,000 made it in and out of NU parking lots with little trouble, there were no problems between fans of both schools and those who came satisfied their hunger to the delight of the North Union Booster Club.
“I’ve sold about 650 hot dogs and 500 hamburgers and we’ve got more coming,” said boosters member Donnie Ridgeway at halftime.
Booster club members were selling food items as fast as they possibly could and Ridgeway estimated the organization would clear approximately $5,000.
The club’s hard work drew the attention of one person in particular.
“It was amazing to watch the booster members,” said Union County Sheriff Rocky Nelson. “They worked pretty hard and I’m sure they sold a lot of food.”
As far as Nelson and his office, plus Richwood Police Chief Monte Asher and his department were concerned, the evening went smoothly.
