Francisco’s signing will hopefully open more doors for Lady Monarch hoopsters
A few strokes of a pen not only made Marysville High School history earlier this week but also potentially opened a lot of doors for future Lady Monarch hoopsters.
Senior Kate Francisco became the first Monarch girls basketball player in recent memory (perhaps ever) to sign a national letter of intent to play Division I basketball at Kent State University.
Over the years, we’ve had a good number of athletes in various sports sign letters of intent to continue their careers in college. A handful have pursued their educational and athletic interests at larger schools, such as Marysville native and New York Giants linebacker Chase Blackburn at Akron and Jon Alder’s Donnie Nickey with the Ohio State football team. However, most - including basketball players - have done so on a smaller scale.
Jonathan Alder graduate Lauren Prochaska became the first girls cager from the area to sign a letter of intent at an NCAA Division I school.
