Gibson poured in 30 points during FHS’ loss at Upper Scioto Valley on Saturday. –––– Fairbanks’ varsity boys basketball team got out of the gate quickly Saturday night at Upper Scioto Valley. Unfortunately, the Panthers could not sustain that momentum and suffered a 63-59 loss. The Panthers (5-9 overall and 2-3 in the NWCC) jumped out to a 25-11 margin after the first period. They held a 35-29 lead at halftime but trailed 45-44 going into the final eight minutes. Fairbanks (which will host Waynesfield Goshen on Friday) got into foul trouble (Patrick Scheiderer fouled out and Josh Conley had four) and saw Brandon Stewart leave the game in the first half with a foot injury. --- Lady Panthers fall A slow start was a good deal of the difficulty when Fairbanks’ girls dropped a 42-39 decision at Madison Plains. The Golden Eagles jumped out to a 14-4 lead by the end of the first period and FHS (7-9) had to expend a great deal of energy to catch up. After trailing 29-16 by halftime, Fairbanks (which will host London tonight) managed to pull within 33-24 by the end of the third set. Lyndsey DeRoads hit three trifectas during the final quarter, enabling FHS to eventually tie the game at 39-39. --- Triad girls drop game The Lady Cardinals slipped to 9-2 in the OHC and 10-5 overall with a 50-47 setback at the hands of Northeastern. After taking a 12-11 edge at the end of the opening period, the Lady Cardinals (who will host Graham this evening) trailed 28-21 at halftime and 39-34 by the end of the third quarter. --- Frosh fall Marysville’s freshman girls fell to 0-10 with Friday’s 41-13 loss to Westerville Central. Jo Weikle led the frosh with five points. --- Teams post tourney victories The Bunsold seventh grade boys Blue team won its first tournament game in Dublin and improved its record to 10-4. The Monarchs defeated Olentangy Shanahan 44-21. They were led by Austin Costlow’s 12 points. Seth Kidd chipped in with 10. --- The Bunsold seventh grade Red girls beat Groveport Madison, 39-37, in overtime for their first tourney win. Megan Loose scored 11 points and Tracy Prinster added eight. --- Jonathan Alder’s seventh grade girls topped Finland Middle School, 40-16, in post-season competition. --- Panther squads fall Fairbanks’ seventh and eighth grade girls fell to Bellefontaine. The seventh grade lost 34-29. Gabby Burchett scored 12 points. The eighth grade fell 33-29 with Whitney Cremeans scoring nine.
