Fairbanks roared out of the blocks on its home court on Monday in a 57-38 non-league win over London.
The Panthers took a 23-14 lead after eight minutes, then almost let the Raiders back in the game by scoring just five points in the second period.
“We got some lay-ups off our man-to-man press in the first quarter and our half-court offense did a great job of getting the ball inside,” coach Rob Riddle said. “London switched to a zone in the second quarter and it really slowed us down.”
Fairbanks got back on track in the second half, outscoring the visitors 14-4 in the third period to take command for good.
Lindsey DeRoads and Gracie Burrell led the Panthers, with lots of help from their friends. DeRoads scored 20 points and made seven steals, while Burrell recorded a double-double with 17 points and 11 rebounds.
