Pictured above in an undated photo, George Stanley Miller, left, and Jesse Zimmer Miller are pictured in their Navy uniforms. Both brothers were among those killed aboard the U.S.S. Arizona during the attack on Pearl Harbor 75 years ago today. Both were posthumously awarded Purple Hearts, shown below, for their part in the Pearl Harbor attacks. After being displayed at the Union County Veterans Services Office in 2011, the medals were donated to the Union County Historical Society.

Area residents George and Jessie Miller lost their lives in attack
On Dec. 7, 1941, the United States stood in shock as the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor, killing 2,403 Americans and launching the country into World War II.
