Surrounded by her family, Madison Williams of Dublin holds her Carnegie Hero medal, which she received at a recent ceremony at Brookdale Marysville, 1565 London Ave. Madison wanted to hold the ceremony at the senior living facility so her great-grandfather, Brookdale resident Carrol McIntosh, could witness it. She received the award for rescuing a young boy from a septic tank in August of last year. She had bystanders lower her through the small opening, allowing her to grab and lift the boy out of the sewage. The medal is given quarterly to U.S. and Canadian citizens who risk their lives saving another person. She’s the 9,933th person to earn the award since its inception in 1904. Pictured above at the ceremony are, from left to right, Madison’s grandmother Jan Williams, McIntosh, Madison and her mother, Leigh Williams.
