Over the weekend, an East Liverpool man died after receiving treatment for possible hypothermia exposure.
According to the Marysville Police Department, David C. Smith, 30, was found sleeping in a garbage can outside of a residence near East Seventh Street at 7:02 a.m. Saturday. Smith was reportedly thrown out of the residence the night before and was waiting outside for someone else to let him back in.
According to the Union County Coroner’s Office, he was admitted to Memorial Hospital at 8 a.m. Then, he died at 12:52 p.m. Saturday.
The night before, officers from the Marysville Police went to the residence on a complaint about Smith not leaving. When the police arrived at 8:57 p.m. Friday, Smith left the home without resistance.
When he was discovered the morning after, he initially refused to provide identification. When he did, it was discovered he had an outstanding warrant with the Union County Sheriff’s Office. Smith has a prior arrest breaking an entering charge from September, 2017.
That morning, Smith had complained about feeling numbness in his hands. He was transported from the scene by the Marysville Fire Department to Memorial Hospital, accompanied by a deputy from the sheriff’s office.
