Alice Elizabeth Riley Kraus, 75, of Marysville, died Friday, June 9, 2017, at Mill Run Gardens in Hilliard.
She was a retired English teacher with Marysville schools. She also served as the middle school’s librarian. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Marysville, Friends of the Marysville Public Library and the Woman’s Parliament. She received a bachelor’s degree in education from The Ohio State University.
As a devoted mother, grandmother, sister and wife, she was deeply supportive of her late husband’s commitment to Marysville in his service as mayor and on city council. With his physical and emotional support when she went through multiple sclerosis, they were able to travel extensively and attend many Ohio State football games.
She was born on May 25, 1942, in Youngstown, to the late Bruce T. and Alice Peters Riley. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, Kenneth M. Kraus.
She is survived by her two sons, Dirk (Jen) Kraus of Fort Collins, Colorado, and Matt (Lindsay) Kraus of Longmont, Colorado; four grandchildren, Jayden, Riley, Alia and Cody; two sisters, Patricia Irwin of Boulder, Colorado, and Margaret (Paulo) Neves of Fort Collins, Colorado; a brother-in-law, the Rev. D. Gene (Julie) Kraus of Bethel, Vermont; two sisters-in-law, Susan (Terry) Pelton of Catawba Island and Cynthia (Tim) Fisher of Creston, Iowa; and many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Underwood Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at First United Methodist Church. Burial will follow at Oakdale Cemetery.
