Carlton Emanuel Nicol, 88, of Marysville and a lifetime resident of Union County, died Sunday, Sept. 17, 2017, at Memorial Gables.
He was a retired dispatcher for the United States Postal Service in Marysville and a former associate of the Davis Chair Factory and Marysville Lumber Company. A veteran of the United States Army, he served in the Korean War and with the active army reserves. He was a member of American Legion Union Post 79. He was a life member of St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church where he was baptized on Oct. 19, 1928, by Pastor Kuechle, and confirmed his faith on March 29, 1942, by Pastor Gerken.
A 1946 graduate of Chuckery Darby High School, he enjoyed camping, playing euchre and spending time with his family and canine companion, Fred. He was a lifelong member of the Starcraft Camper Club and was known for his photography presentations of all 88 Ohio county courthouses.
He was born on Oct. 18, 1928, in Darby Township, to the late Frieda Nicol. In addition to his mother, he was also preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Ann Stalnaker Nicol, whom he married on July 30, 1950 at Unionville Center United Methodist Church by the Rev. J. M. Gambill, and who died in 2010; daughters, Marsha (Daniel) Hronek, Cheryl Morris and Roberta (Doug) Angel; grandchildren, Jason (Sarah) Nicol, Jennifer (Abe) Nixon, Steven (Jenny) Hronek, Justin (Amanda) Morris, Matthew (Amber Adelsberger) Angel and Meggie Angel; great-grandchildren, Jackson, Gavin, Noah, Preston, Leila and Peyton; many other extended relatives and friends; and his devoted neighbors, Amos and Alicia Stacy.
The family will receive friends from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Underwood Funeral Home. The Rev. Jacob D. Heino will officiate funeral services at 2:30 p.m. Thursday at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church and burial will be beside his wife at the church cemetery. Military honors will be provided by the Union County Military Funeral Honor Guard.
