Clarence Burroughs, 79, of Bellefontaine, died Sept. 12, 2017, at the Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center surrounded by his family.
He served in the United States Marine Corps for four years. He then married his wife, Barbara Eubanks Burroughs, on Dec. 13, 1959. As a retired firefighter with the Lima Fire Department, he spent his retirement loving his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He valued going to church and listening to his favorite hymns. He attended the Bellefontaine First Family Church and Gretna Brethren Church. He was a giver, friend, neighbor, firefighter and a marine. He was loved by all who knew him, and will be missed by so many.
One could often find him enjoying a conversation about current events and politics while enjoying a cup of coffee at the local McDonalds. He was an avid fan of the Ohio State Buckeyes, Cincinnati Reds, NASCAR, Pinewood Derby racecars and all types of animals. His neighbors knew him as a man who would walk his late dog, Sparky, up and down his road. He also enjoyed walking dogs from the neighborhood simply because he adored spending time with them.
He was born on May 21, 1938, in North Lewisburg, to the late William and Elizabeth Huffman Burroughs.
He is survived by his children, Nancy (Wayne) Steinberger of Bellefontaine and David (Theresa) Burroughs of Wapakoneta; grandchildren, Erica (Justin) Cluck of Bellefontaine, Daniel (Lisa) Burroughs of Urbana, Kasondra (Chris) Postle of Botkins and Adam (Anna) Steinberger of Tacoma, Washington; great-grandchildren, D.J., Emery, Joseph, Hayden and Eden, who, next to his wife, were the lights of his world; and siblings, Lawrence Burroughs of Bellefontaine, Esther Speakman of Newark, Maggie Eubanks of Irwin and Jimmy Burroughs of Newport, Tennessee.
Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at Jennings Farley Funeral Home & Crematory, 5591 Route 68 South, West Liberty. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Maple Grove Cemetery in North Lewisburg.
