Gertrude Anna Lillian Rausch Nicol, 91, of Marysville, died Saturday, June 17, 2017, at Memorial Gables.
She was a retired bank teller with Huntington National Bank, formerly Farmers & Merchants Bank, in Marysville. She and her late husband, Luther, built and operated two Short Stop convenience stores, located on North Main Street and West Fifth Street in Marysville, for more than 10 years.
She was a member of St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Chuckery, where she also attended grade school. She graduated from Chuckery Darby High School in 1943, and was a volunteer for Memorial Hospital and Mobile Meals. She also was a volunteer for the American Red Cross bloodmobile.
She enjoyed gardening, camping and wintering in Florida for several years with her husband. As an avid Buckeyes fan, she often cheered on its football and basketball teams. Above all, she cherished spending time with her family, friends and the staff at Memorial Gables.
She was born on Sept. 7, 1925, in Union County, to the late Edward and Carolyn Rausch. In addition to her parents, she was also predeceased by her husband of 63 years, Luther J. Nicol, who died in 2011; a son, Doug Nicol; her granddaughter, Jennifer Nicol; and brothers and sisters-in-law, Harold Nicol, Shade Watkins, Williard and Alice Nicol, Ben Elsom, Walter Burger and Ed Eger.
She is survived by her children, Lewis (Marcia) Nicol of Grove City, Wanda (Doug) Snyder of Springfield and Kevin (Kaye) Nicol of Marysville; five grandsons, Shawn Nicol, Danny (Katie) Nicol, Kyle Nicol, Ben Nicol and Andy Nicol; her brother, Raymond (Susie) Rausch of Milford Center; her brother-in-law, Lester (Pat) Nicol; five sisters-in-law, Florence Watkins, Dorothy Burger, Marie Elsom, Lucille Eger and Betty Nicol; many nieces and nephews; and other relatives and church family.
