Joseph L. Auker, 87, recently of Marysville and formerly of Columbus, where he lived most of his life, died peacefully Nov. 6, 2017, at Memorial Hospital as the result of complications from pneumonia, with his family by his side.
He served in the U.S. Marine Corp and was a scoutmaster with Troop #250 at St. Agnes Church. He worked for Rodenfels Chevrolet for 19 years and later retired from Ohio Dominican University, where he worked as a stationary engineer.
He was born on Sept. 27, 1930, in New Straitsville, to the late Harry and Elsie Auker of Logan. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his twin sons, Joseph and Michael Auker; brothers, Dick (Arlene) Auker, Bob (Evelyn) Auker; and sister, Mary Lou (Bob) Whitcraft.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Sylvia (Corby) Auker; son, Ed (Connie) Auker of Dublin; daughters, Julia (Larry) Fitzwater and Janet Auker, both of Marysville; grandchildren, Amber (Chris) Locke, Michelle (Rob) Winnenberg, Rachael (Keith) Severs, Ashley (Rich) Talbott, Michael Auker, Ryan (Becca) Auker, Glen Auker, Sarah Auker, Adeline Fitzwater and Carly Fitzwater; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at Ferguson Funeral Home, 202 E. Main St. (Route 161 W.), Plain City. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery Chapel, 6440 S. High St., Lockbourne.
