Mary Martha Opphile, 94, of Marysville, died Thursday, Sept. 21, 2017, at Memorial Hospital in Union County.
She worked as a linotype operator with the Marysville Journal-Tribune for 25 years and 10 years with the Bellefontaine Examiner before retiring in 1976. She formerly worked in janitorial services for six years at O.M. Scotts. She attended the Grace Community Church of God at the Hampton Inn meeting space and was a 1941 graduate of Marysville High School. She enjoyed walking, sewing and especially enjoyed attending church and her church fellowship.
She was born on Aug. 29, 1923, in Marysville, to the late John Phillip and Dollie Melching Opphile. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Paul, Elmer, Bernard, Phillip “Red” Jr. and Eugene; and sisters, Edith Opphile and Dorothy Lowenfeld.
She is survived by her nieces, Sandra (Ronald) Kanniard of Cardington and Nina (Bill) Fox of Galveston, Texas; nephews, Craig (Linda) Opphile of Marysville and Ronald (Judy) Opphile of Conroy, Texas; and several great-nieces and nephews.
The Rev. Kirk Bookout will officiate funeral services at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Wilson Funeral Home, Mannasmith Chapel. Burial will take place at Oakdale Cemetery. Friends may call from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
